SA Foundation has been awarded £12,403 in Sport England funding to launch Active Youth Zones — free after-school and weekend sport sessions supporting young people in Harlow to get active, build confidence, and improve wellbeing.
We’re incredibly excited to share that SA Foundation has been awarded £12,403 in funding from Sport England, through the National Lottery, to launch Active Youth Zones — our brand new physical activity programme for children and young people in Harlow.
This is a huge moment for us. Not just because it’s our first major grant, but because it allows us to start delivering what we set out to do from the very beginning:
Create accessible, inclusive, inspiring spaces where young people can move, grow, and thrive.
Active Youth Zones are dedicated activity hubs designed to get young people moving through:
Sports clinics
Dance and movement classes
Fitness challenges
Multi-skill sessions
Team sports and games
SEND-inclusive sessions
We’ll be running weekly sessions for ages 6–18, divided into primary and secondary age groups — with a focus on fun, confidence, and long-term engagement rather than competition.
Right now, too many young people are:
physically inactive
spending more time on screens than moving
facing rising mental health challenges
lacking safe, structured spaces to be active
unable to afford sports clubs or facilities
Active Youth Zones change that — by offering free, local, accessible activities for all.
We’ll be delivering sessions at two local partner schools:
📍 St Albans Catholic Academy — Mondays (5–6:30 pm)
Focus: movement, fundamental skills, fun & confidence
📍 Passmores Academy — Wednesdays (5–6:30 pm)
Focus: sports skills, fitness, teamwork, leadership
We’re proud to partner with schools that share our commitment to community wellbeing.
This project will support:
inactive young people
children facing financial barriers
families without access to private clubs
SEND young people
underserved neighbourhoods
anyone who wants to be active but can’t find a place to start
We aim to reach 650 young people between September 2024 and July 2025.
Sport England’s support will fund:
facility hire
qualified coaches
programme planning
session delivery
promotional outreach
multi-sport equipment
No barriers. No cost to families. Just opportunity.
This funding isn’t just a grant — it’s the beginning of something bigger.
A community.
A movement.
A healthier, happier future for young people in Harlow.
We’re grateful to Sport England who made this possible.
When you donate to SA Foundation, you help transform hardship into opportunity. Every contribution helps us reach who in need of care and support.
